Helen Gibbins

Helen aspires to making serious work, but her subjects often take the lead to create a more whimsical universe of drawings and objects. Since receiving a BA Honours HD in sculpture at RMIT way back when, she has exhibited in solo and group shows, worked in not-for-profit galleries in Melbourne, and co-managed/co-developed the Melbourne International Animation Festival and associated projects for a decade. She is honoured to currently hold the position of President of Surf Coast Arts Inc – a voluntary community led organisation (since 1994) that encourages anyone who is passionate about supporting the local arts, to join the committee (get in touch!). As a relatively new resident on the coast, there is still so much to learn about the history of the arts in the region – so enormous praise to the Shire’s creative team for developing Portal, to reinvigorate all important conversations and connections. Helen also curates the Instagram account #ourcreativecoast, a place to share creative opportunities and the work by artists who reside along the great west coast of Victoria.
