About this Event

As an artist, nobody knows your art to the depth you do – but is this a good thing? Having the confidence to write about your art is vital to successfully taking your art to a broader audience. And knowing what to write and how to write for different purposes and platforms is essential. In this workshop, Stacie will offer a number of practical approaches to writing about your own art for essentials such as a great biography, artist’s statement and the elevator pitch. As part of the workshop, artists will write a statement about a single work of art – often required when entering arts prizes. Participants will have a chance to ask questions and discuss their artist statement with Stacie in her #TeaStation chat on Friday 19 June, 2.30pm. This workshop will cover:
  • The importance of a good (and regularly reviewed) bio;
  • Writing about your own art – different approaches for different purposes;
  • Learning from reading – take aways from well-written pieces;
  • Reflecting on your own work;
  • Attendees will also write a 200 word statement about a single work of art.
Materials required:
  • Pen, paper or computer for notes;
  • A work of art for an artist’s statement.

(Thursday) 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
