Ray Wilson

Ray enjoys tonal impressionist oil painting, the study of light, in the tradition of early Australian artists, particularly those influenced by Max Meldrum. He paints all genres: en plein air landscapes and seascapes; still life and portraiture. His aim in painting is to keep his artwork simple and ‘painterly’, that is, portraying the image before him with as few brush strokes as needed to create an image that pleases him. He is inspired by the natural environment of the surf coast, particularly in the vicinity of Aireys Inlet.
